What matters
- Baemin now supports ordering without a domestic Korean phone number and selected overseas payment methods, but the exact flow can vary by app version, country number and issuer.
- Shuttle is designed for foreign users, supports English and major cards, but covers fewer restaurants and regions than the largest Korean apps.
- Yogiyo and Coupang Eats are common Korean choices, but a tourist should verify the current phone, identity and overseas-payment flow instead of assuming every account will work.
- A correct street address is not enough when a driver needs the building entrance, lobby, unit or outdoor delivery-zone details.
- The total can include a minimum order, delivery fee, distance or small-order charge, and these can change with time, weather and demand.
- Korean customers commonly compare app ratings and reviews, especially recent photos, the same menu item, repeated complaints and owner responses.
- Review-event freebies can encourage short positive reviews, so one high average score is not enough evidence.
- Hotels can require lobby pickup and Hangang parks use designated delivery zones; be ready to meet the driver.
The simplest tourist order plan
Install or update the delivery app while you have reliable data. Prepare an SMS-capable phone number, an overseas card, the Korean road address, building name and a short instruction for the place where you will physically meet the driver.
Try a small, uncomplicated first order before a very late night. Choose a restaurant nearby, read the final total and delivery estimate, then remain near the phone and pickup point until the order is complete.
- First choice: current Baemin foreign-language or guest flow.
- Foreigner-friendly backup: Shuttle where coverage exists.
- Final backup: pickup, hotel-approved help, a nearby restaurant or convenience store.
Baemin, Yogiyo, Coupang Eats and Shuttle
Baemin, Yogiyo and Coupang Eats are major apps that Koreans use to compare nearby restaurants, menus, discounts, delivery times and reviews. As of August 2026, Seoul says Baemin has introduced ordering without a domestic phone number and supports overseas-issued cards, selected overseas wallets and overseas cards through Apple Pay.
App changes can roll out unevenly. If the expected foreign-number or payment option is missing, update the app, check the language and guest path, and do not create a resident identity or use another persons account. Treat Yogiyo and Coupang Eats as additional current-flow checks rather than guaranteed tourist solutions.
- Baemin: widest local-style discovery path and current tourist-access improvements.
- Yogiyo and Coupang Eats: common local alternatives; verify the screen presented to your account.
- Shuttle: bilingual, major-card-friendly backup with more limited restaurant and regional coverage.
Enter an address a rider can actually find
Copy the Korean road address from the accommodation or Naver Map. Add the building name and the exact meeting point. A hotel may require delivery to the lobby, while a residence can require a building entrance code or a message when the rider arrives.
Ask the hotel or host whether delivery is allowed before ordering. Never publish a door code in a review, and do not use a staff or host phone number unless that person explicitly agrees to receive the call.
- 호텔 로비에서 받을게요. — I will receive it in the hotel lobby.
- 도착하면 메시지 주세요. — Please message me when you arrive.
- 정문 앞에서 만나요. — Let us meet at the main entrance.
Ordering at a Hangang park or other outdoor place
Large parks and event areas can be impossible to describe with a normal street pin. Use the officially marked delivery zone shown in the app or on local signs, and enter the zone number or landmark exactly.
Walk to the zone before the rider arrives, keep notifications on and check the vehicle or order details in the app. Do not ask a rider to search through a crowded lawn, riverside path or festival area.
- Share the delivery-zone number, not only the park name.
- Keep the phone charged and mobile data active.
- Carry away all packaging and sort waste where instructed.
Read ratings and reviews like a Korean customer
Start with the reviews inside the app where you will order because they reflect that delivery listing and menu. Read recent reviews for the exact dish, then look for repeated comments about portion size, missing items, leaking soup, cold food, long waits and whether the owner answers problems constructively.
Use Naver Map visitor reviews to cross-check the restaurant as a business. Naver says these reviews can be supported by receipt, payment, reservation or order verification and can be viewed by recommended or recent order. Kakao Map and Google Maps are useful secondary checks, but their dine-in reviews do not prove that tonight’s delivery will be fast or well packed.
- Prefer several recent photos over one polished menu image.
- Compare the same menu item and similar delivery distance.
- Read two- and three-star patterns, not only one-star anger or five-star praise.
- Notice 리뷰이벤트 review-event text and judge the detail of the review.
Fried chicken, malatang and tteokbokki
Korean fried chicken, or chikin, is a classic delivery and late-night choice. Common options include plain fried, sweet-spicy yangnyeom, soy-garlic, boneless or bone-in, and banban half-and-half. Pickled radish often comes on the side, while drinks and extra sauce may cost more.
Malatang is a spicy, numbing soup assembled from selected ingredients and often priced by weight. Check the minimum weight, spice level, meat and seafood additions, sesame or peanut ingredients and whether rice is separate.
Tteokbokki is spicy rice cake, often ordered as part of bunsik with fish cake, sundae Korean blood sausage, fried vegetables or dumplings and gimbap. Portions and heat can be much larger than the menu photo suggests, so choose the lowest spice level when uncertain.
- 순살 — boneless chicken
- 반반 — half one flavor and half another
- 맵기 — spice level
- 튀김 — fried side dishes
Jokbal, bossam, pizza and Korean-Chinese food
Jokbal is seasoned braised pigs trotter, while bossam is sliced boiled pork served with wraps, kimchi and sauces. Both are popular group or late-night deliveries and a standard small size can still be intended for two or more people. Salted shrimp sauce can be included.
Korean delivery pizza includes familiar styles plus local toppings such as sweet potato, corn, bulgogi and sweet sauces. Check crust, size and set options rather than comparing only the restaurant name.
Korean-Chinese delivery classics include jajangmyeon black-bean noodles, jjamppong spicy seafood noodle soup and tangsuyuk sweet-and-sour pork. For tangsuyuk, sauce can arrive separately; 찍먹 means dipping and 부먹 means pouring it over.
- 족발 — braised pigs trotter
- 보쌈 — sliced boiled pork with wraps
- 짜장면 — black-bean noodles
- 짬뽕 — spicy seafood noodle soup
- 탕수육 — sweet-and-sour pork
Hoe and other raw seafood
Hoe is sliced raw fish, often sold as a set with vegetables, sauces and sometimes side dishes. Fish type, seasonal availability, portion and whether soup or rice is included vary widely.
Order raw seafood only from a business you trust, receive it promptly and follow safe storage instructions. Do not leave it in a hotel corridor or outdoor delivery zone. Anyone who is pregnant, immunocompromised or otherwise at higher food-safety risk should seek appropriate medical guidance before eating raw seafood.
- Check whether the listing is raw fish, sashimi-style slices or a mixed seafood set.
- Read recent reviews for temperature, packaging and freshness complaints.
- Refrigerate immediately if it will not be eaten at once.
Before payment and when the order fails
Review the minimum order, delivery fee, small-order fee, estimated arrival, selected spice level, disposable cutlery choice and final currency before paying. Membership discounts shown to local users may require a subscription and should not be counted as an automatic tourist saving.
If SMS, identity, payment or address validation fails, do not keep submitting the same transaction. Try the supported guest path or another card once, then move to Shuttle, pickup or an in-person meal. If the order was charged but not confirmed, save the payment record and contact the platform instead of placing an immediate duplicate.
- Do not ask accommodation staff to use a personal account unless they freely offer.
- Choose pickup when the restaurant is close and delivery instructions are difficult.
- For allergies or religious restrictions, contact the restaurant; translated menu names are not a safety guarantee.
- Keep screenshots of the order status until every item and refund is resolved.
